rotten city records welcomes a new citizen, but not a newcomer tothe scene. he is luca rocca atagliati, best known as dj rocca, a veteran dj and producer from italy, half ajello, half supersonic lovers, half from crimea, a third of electric tree and regular contributor with legendary dj’s like daniele baldelli or dimitri from paris. after his multiple releases on labels like is it balearic?, nang or futureboogie, luca joins to our beloved rotten city with two original tracks showing his darker, narcotic and narrative side, concocting a bizarre and labyrinthine disco, which develops a spiral shaped staircase from the inside.

manchester-born, berlin-based producer setaoc mass returns to his own sk_eleven imprint with his third outing on the cycles ep. here we see the artist’s propulsive brand of techno take on an extra dynamic, starting with the muscular, mind-warping drive of cyber taking control, kunfus reverts back to a highly purified, galvanising techno groove, coalescing crisp percussion and a perpetual stomp to devastating effect, whilst turning over the sci-fi indebted structured deceit adds to the strong release with its mesmerising melodies and ceaseless energy. finished of by the more downbeat, reverb-drenched, insulated mindset of escape from you.

greek producer markos spanoudakis aka kreon has certainly made an impact on the electronic music scene.his percussive and jazz tipped sound has found its place through solo releases for labels such as cecille, robsoul and many more seminal underground imprints. his latest offering on serialism has been widely received by a small handfull of the scenes elite who have been dropping tracks from the ep all summer hualtor kicks of proceedings with delayed vocal stabs that roll over a 4x4 kick and a doubled up snare. the bass groove cleverly pitches up and down and is completed with a series of shuffled hi hats which complete this minimalistic winner. up next on a2 is forpsyche, which encomopasses a tough and rolling drum selection with swing added for good measure, a sub bass, warm pads and erratic lead stabs bring the all the elements together nicely. third track ‘valtera’ then keeps to kreons signature laid back grooves, shuffling drum licks and the use of processed vocal stabs, the track seamlessly rolls with a series of lo-fi glitches and pitch shifted chord stabs. finally forpyke rounds off the package as it rolls out a sure fire drum selection full of swing and stripped-back percussive hits, repetitive chord textures ebb and flow throughout the composition which results in a truly hypnotic and raw dance floor killer, with intricate percussion patterns that are packed full of swing.

fresh on the back of the release of his third album good luck and do your best this summer, gold panda signs off an acclaimed 2016 with a very limited 12 of three remixes of music taken from his latest record. having previously re-worked the panda track community, berlin-resident fort romeau once again takes the reigns with a gorgeous, nine-minute pulsing, electro-heavy recreation of the track time eater complete with ghostly synth motifs that twirl around japanese instrumentation culminating in a frenetic release. us producer john roberts, who himself released one of the best deep house records of the year, remixes chiba nights, transforming it into a thumping, acid-tinged affair that mixes space and warped electronics beautifully.

‘freedom school’ is well known for releasing music from the likes of ig culture, mark de clive lowe, eric lau and rick “the godson” wilhite. the third volume of the freedom school d.j. series features the work of kaidi tatham. there are three solid tracks on this 12” from beat-down house to jazzy down tempo beats. kaidi brings his futuristic funky fusion to give all the dancers warm and peaceful vibes!

even if russian producer gradient logic is found here turning out the business on serbian label disco fruit, the sound on the far away ep comes on like a snappy fusion of garage-ready new york proto house and laid back west coast boogie of the highest order. it s the third vinyl release for tonbe s label, and once more marks the serious clout behind the eastern european operation and its closest artists. just try grooving to the slick bass pops on feel me without being transported to an early 80s dancefloor. there s a more organic funk to lock into on i want you slide, but as ever it s hard to tell where the sampling ends and the musicianship begins on this utterly natural sounding ep.

this excellent four-track offering is the italian pairings third ep on curle, following on from blue aconite in 2013 and same mistake twice last year, which garnered them support from techno heavyweights such as sven väth, laurent garnier and efdemin.

the third from farbwechsel and the first one from route 8 is back on vinyl. mental murder ep is a lo-fi jack gem with four tracks from the prince himself and a remix from the houston-based house wizard miguel flaco. mental murder is a fateful stab wound with a blunt, rusty knife straight to your brain, which causes a kind of lobotomy happiness.

munich pair jorkes continue to build a nice head of steam with a third new single. entitled mindemania, it comes once more on the small but well formed freeride millenium label with a great remix from nikkname.

over the last year, daniel martin-mccormick has been exploring new terrain as relaxer, releasing a series of eps on the project s eponymous label. the third installment follows the paranoid whispers and mossy drip of the first two, yet is the most direct so far. “forming” and “forming (version)” offer distinct takes on a simple rhythmic motif, the first reaching for the heavens, and the b2 “version” sinking into hell. both develop gradually, drawing in the dance floor before unleashing, the a-side’s yearning strings and thunderclaps overflow with emotion, while “version” is a vortex of ever-escalating, dark intensity. in between is “monday,” a teeming environment with a deep bass throb, pounding drums, and shimmering percolating melodies.

african scream contest’ is the third release by the analog africa label. the project initially took off in august 2005 when label owner and vinyl collector samy ben redjeb arrived in cotonou, benin, “without any special expectations, just hoping to lay my hands on few good records - what i found in the process cannot really be described in words-. this first trip was followed by eight more to the region. thirty months and few thousand records later analog africa proudly presents this 14-track compilation. redjeb conducted 16 interviews in various cities in benin and togo with artists, producers and sound engineers to reconstruct the history of the 70s music scene for the 44 pages booklet which also features many rare photographs directly received from the artists. delve into the forgotten raw and psychedelic afro sounds from 70s benin and togo and experience the african scream contest. very, very limited copies in, and this might notcome in anymore.... tip!

Æ is the third part of bjarki triptych of lps to be released this year. Æ is a particularly icelandic form, pronounced “i” in english, bjarki thinks it just looks good. here it is a selection of music that is at its core quite simple, with restrained instrumentation, made on hardware and features a selection of older works and the most recent produced just weeks ago. bjarki is from iceland. born and raised. despite the fact that bjarki is known for making extremely powerful dance floor tracks he doesn’t seem to belong to any particular genre. something this triptych of lps demonstrates very well. his music is at times cinematic and there’s a story behind each track. bjarki’s music always has something to do with him personally, but he’d rather the listener lose themselves in the music than pay much attention to the man behind them. either on a record or to one of his ever evolving live sets.

coastdream from brazil is the third artist on the deeptrax label. again a full 4 track ep, with these raw massive beats over a 90s feel, ecstatic house landscape which has that totally unique, beautiful naive and devastating dancefloor destruction factor

kapvt mvndi records is back in london with the new catalogue series, we moved from the first two chapter (the fourth vinyl retrospectively homage to war, kpt001 and kpt002, and to religion, the latest kpt003 and kpt004). the third chapter of our hidden tale is about “society”, with a single side ep, as usual, but with a new graphic scheme coming with pictured disk on the side with no music, one more time courtesy of new yorker photographer paolo di lucente.

quanta records’ third release, correspondances, is a mini lp by aeon that combines experimental techno, ambient and musique concrète elements. the tracks of the album communicate through similar sounds, noises and rhythmic patterns, but while atmospheres diverge, there is a constant exchange from cold and industrial to solar and melodious so as to form a complex and balanced ensemble.
aeon’s has placed randomness at the centre of his creative process. computing and random programming have allowed the artist to explore new structures and to no longer simply consider a glitch as an error, but rather as a primal source of novel sound.

elocution, the third figure ep from portuguese producer lewis fautzi, again displays a high defree of versatility but still comes cleary cut for the club. employing a rich yet spacious sound design, fautzi creates cinematic scapes that are at once both brimming with the hums of colossal interstellar machinery yet at the same time leave enough room for a range of carefully sculpted elements to do their work. whether it be the twisted acid arpeggio on opener shizophrenia, the imposing drones underscoring the mighty mirror or the propulsive percussion of centerpiece 37b. testament to fautzis talent of engaging arrangement, never do the tracks here feel hurried nor do they become stagnant - but rather given just the right time to ripe into their full captivating potential. no matter if one is to approach this records as already an avid lover of lewis fautzis work or comes to it simply looking for fresh takes on the classic formula, this enthralling ep certainly will satisfy everyones needs.

fans of tramp records may remember the band the bionic i. their song disco claus was featured on the third volume of santa s funk & soul christmas party. actually, the city news are none else than the bionic i! eric dunbar, member of both outfits, got introduced to the piano at age 5. in 1969 he started playing music with the city news band, a new orleans rhythm & blues band. bustin up is the side unless you like the kung-fu craze inspired chan the man that was around in 1975.
